not blue beige brown but blue red white are the colors of the flag of the land of the free.
in the United States, Independence Day is a federal holiday that goes back to American Revolution (1775-83). since 1941, July Fourth anually celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. by declaring the 13 colonies as a new nation, the Continental Congress announced the United States of America – no longer being part of the British Empire. Fourth of July is traditionally associated with fireworks and parades, concerts and sports, family events and political speeches.

on my holidays in California in 2013, I had the car a day before I picked up my friend at the airport. this gave me the possibility of having a full dose of Pacific. just somewhere. nowhere in specific. so I chose the place with the most appealing name. I ended up in the Santa Cruz region: enjoying the wild nature of La Selva Beach, watching the sun go down from ‘Pleasure Point’ at the Opal Cliffs.
standing on the cliffs of La Selva, I was not only fascinated by the overwhelming feeling of freedom and independence, but also the clarity of colors, permanence of elements, and actually also possible means of transport. which I captured in this picture. started as a retreat in 1925 by a real estate developer, the property was primarily named ‘Rob Roy’. ten years later, the name was changed to ‘La Selva Beach’ which is Spanish for ‘the forest’ – labelling the conifer woods surrounding the community. the unincorporated community Opal Cliffs, located ca. 15km north of La Selva, is at the upper corner of the picturesque Monterey Bay. #Baywatching.
