Ocean Ave in Santa Monica (esp. around the pier-area) is a great place to go to if you enjoy the contrary of manmade modern, well-structured architecture and the natural roughness of the sea.
not about architecture but strategically building and developing properties is the Settlers of Catan. in the multiplayer board game, first published in 1995 in Germany, the players slip into the roles of settlers who trade resources (lumber, brick, ore, wool, and grain) to grow their civilizations. for the latter, the settlers get points; the first player who reaches 10 victory points is the winner. Catan has been translated into 30 languages and was inspiration for video games, novels and an upcoming TV adaption.
