Point Loma is a peninsula that is the entrance to San Diego Bay. ‘Loma’ is Spanish for ‘hill’. the original name of the peninsula was ‘La Punta de la Loma de San Diego’ (=’Hill Point of San Diego’) which was later anglicized to ‘Point Loma’. in addition to residential and commercial areas and a university, the peninsula today houses two military bases, a national cemetery and a national monument.
in 1852, the US government recognized the importance of the environment and designated the area as a military reserve. established in 1882, Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery is a federal military cemetery. it is located on the compound of the former Army coastal artillery station Fort Rosecrans, overlooking San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
a nice overview surely also has the butterfly. the insect with a slim body, and large, often brightly coloured wings is active by day. besides being a symbol of grace and freedom, the butterfly stands for transformation because of its impressive process of metamorphosis. in several cultures, the insect is said to be associated with the soul and spiritual growth; and thus linked to the ‘power of believing’.
