tunnel vision

tunnel vision [ 11.2013 | Yosemite ]

during my stay with my best friend in California in winter 2013, I discovered the most peculiar and picturesque places. and surreal spaces. and stunning spots. some of them on my first weekend already, in Yosemite National Park.
this picture might remind you of one of your Microsoft Windows wall papers – the Half Dome in the background. the historic site from where I took this photo shows the breathtaking Tunnel View in all its beauty. the scenic overlook of El Capitan (right), Half Dome (axis), and Bridalveil Fall (right) has been documented by visitors since 1933. apart from the pure and overwhelming strength of nature, there is another reason why this view into Yosemite Valley is so impressive: when you enter the national park from the south you drive through a long tunnel. and this is what awaits you behind the darkness.

coming out of such a dark moment, it is important to sort your belongings to remind yourself of your route – from where you came and to where you’re heading. my friend and I headed to the top of the Upper Yosemite Fall. which was quite a challenge due to my jetlag – and the fact these falls are one of the highest in the world [ the round trip is more than 11km (> 7miles) long with more than 800m (2,700ft) elevation gain ]. I did take all of my belongings with me. but I surely left parts of me among those roaring waters, secretive rocks and whispering trees.
