“they say that when good Americans die they go to Paris,” chuckled Sir Thomas…

Paris is the capital of France, situated on the river Seine in the north-central part of the country. ‘la Ville Lumière’ (= ‘the City of Light’) is located in the centre of the Île-de-France region, also known as the ‘région parisienne’. the Paris ‘aire urbaine’ is one of the most populated areas in Europe. the city is subdivided in 20 arrondissements and by far the most important centre of culture and commerce in the country.

“really! and where do bad Americans go to when they die?” inquired the Duchess.

the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris is a Roman Catholic church at the highest point in the city, Montmartre, the ‘Mount of Martyrs’. the popular landmark in Romano-Byzantine style was designed by Paul Abadie and built between 1875 and 1914. the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a symbol of a loving and compassionate Christ.

“they go to America,” murmured Lord Henry.

September 29th is World Heart Day – which isn’t really meant in the romantic sense but was established to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease. this year’s propaganda is all about understanding what people can do to fuel their hearts, the engine of their power – giving it the care it deserves – to laugh, love, and live life to the fullest.
